StopTech Street Performance Brake Pads are engineered to meet the demands of high performance driving while maintaining the refinement and comfort expected in everyday driving conditions. StopTech Brake Pads combine the benefits of premium street brake pads with aggressive friction formulas suitable for track day and autocross use. Para-aramid composites* are specially formulated to provide linear response at both cold and hot temperatures, delivering optimum stopping performance over a wide range of driving conditions.

StopTech Street Performance Brake Pads are manufactured using the same "Positive Molding" process utilized by Original Equipment suppliers. Positive molding uses extreme pressure to compress the friction material and bond it to the backing plate. This process assures consistent friction material density throughout the pad, resulting in even wear and performance characteristics throughout the life of the brake pad.

StopTech Street Performance brake friction features either precision cut or shaved backing plates and mechanically attached shims; these small details ensure proper fitment in the caliper and virtually eliminate noise associated with pad vibration. In addition to these features, StopTech Street Performance Brake Pads are scorched; this additional process forces any impurities out of the friction material and pre-burnishes the pads to greatly accelerate the break-in process.

*Aramids are a class of synthetic aromatic long-chain polyamides capable of extrusion into fibers having resistance to high temperatures and great strength. The name "aramid" is a shortened form of "aromatic polyamide". The chain molecules are highly oriented along the fiber axis, so the strength of the chemical bond can be exploited. Para-aramid composites, such as Kevlar, provide outstanding strength-to-weight properties. Para-aramids have a high tensile strength (resistance to longitudinal stress) and low creep (resistance to permanent deformation under stresses such as continuous loads or high temperatures) and are used in many high-tech applications, such as aerospace and military applications.


Positive Molding Process

The StopTech Positive Molding process involves these steps:

  • The backing plate is loaded into the mold.
  • The Positive Mold cavity plate is then placed over the backing plate.
  • Loose friction material is added to the mold.
  • Extreme heat and pressure are applied driving any impurities out of the friction material resulting in a more consistent finished pad.

Scorching stabilizes friction levels right out of the box, raising initial cold effectiveness and providing consistent performance across the entire operating range.

StopTech's Brake Pad Scorcher During the scorching phase, the brake pad is super heated to simulate the initial break-in process. This additional step removes any uncured bonding agents eliminating the need for initial break-in and reducing noise caused by pad glazing. Scorching thermally conditions the pad material yielding a more consistent and higher friction level right out of the box.
